SWDRA moves season finale weekend

The Southwest Dirt Racing Association has moved its Nov. 29-30 season finale to Arizona Speedway near Queen Creek, Ariz., with $1,500- and $3,000-to-win events with Winning Edge Carburetion sponsoring the Copper Classic’s Late Model action.

The non-points Thanksgiving weekend replaces SWDRA’s originally scheduled finale at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz., which will continue its Harvest Hustle minus the Late Model division.

“This is a change we’ve been looking at for a while, and the pieces fell into place where we can pull it off here in 2019,” series director Jason Babyak said in a press release. “The Copper Classic has long standing roots in the Phoenix area of being a sprint car and Late Model show and we’re thrilled to be able to bring that combination back to the track, this time on dirt.”

SWDRA has two points races remaining Oct. 12 at Canyon and Nov. 2 at Arizona Speedway with John Cornell gunning for another series title.

The fourth annual Copper Classic includes winged and non-winged sprint divisions with the Late Model action paying at least $200 and $250 to every starter. Each day’s complete program requires a $25 entry fee. Visit arizonaspeedway.net for more information.
